Director

Dr. Ibrar Zulfiqar Bhutta is a well-known community figure whose work spans interfaith outreach, bridge-building, and the fight against Islamophobia, antisemitism, and all forms of religious hatred. For years, he has been recognized across diverse Muslim and non-Muslim communities as someone who brings people together—Sunnis, Shias, Sufis, Christians, Jews, and neighbors of every background—through honesty, compassion, and conviction.

As a founding director of the Auliya Council of North America, Dr. Bhutta helped shape the Council’s central mission: to create a space where every seeker of God feels welcomed and respected, regardless of sect, school of thought, or faith tradition. This vision is deeply personal to him.

He is also the founder of Masjid Babu Zulfiqar, named in honor of his father, continuing a cherished family legacy. His grandfather built a masjid in Pakistan; decades later, his father built another masjid in his father’s name; and now, Dr. Bhutta carries that lineage forward by establishing a center rooted in love, service, and spiritual inclusivity. Though he lives in New Jersey—more than a two-and-a-half-hour drive away—he remains fully committed to the growth of this beautiful Mahopac community.

Dr. Bhutta has long been involved with multiple Islamic centers and civic initiatives, but Masjid Babu Zulfiqar holds a special place in his heart as the first center he founded himself. His goal is not simply to build a building, but to build a model for what an American Muslim community can be: open, confident in its faith, respectful toward others, and proud to stand for unity and peace.
